Lila O.

                  Meeting Lilah
I was so nervous! The bus ride was bumpy and rocky. I
was determined to have a good time at this camp, Camp
Akeela! I knew I would have to make new friends and
that made me feel like there was a bunch of large
butterflies in my stomach.
I sat next to an eager, not shy at all, kind girl named
Lauren. She had strawberry blonde hair and a bag full
of delicious candy. She asked, “Do you like candy?”
I replied, “Yeah?” She threw a pack of Starburst, a whole
three packs of M&M's, and like 3 billion trillion Twizzlers at
me.“Yum!” I grinned.
“I know, right!?” Lauren cried. Half an hour, and a bunch
of candies later, the bus screeched to a stop. It was
pouring cats and dogs outside. In my seat I slipped on on
my boots and draped my poncho over my Camp Akeela
t-shirt and jean shorts.
Backpack over my shoulder and a half-eaten Twizzler in
my hand, I stepped off the bus, welcomed by warm,
heavy rain.
“Agh!!” I ran, with Lauren, to our bunk. By then, I was
soaked head to toe; panting.
I found my bunk. I sighed and sat down. 15 minutes later,
everyone was here. Me, Lauren, Jacqueline, Elizabeth,
Ellen and Ava.
Our counselors were Alice, Sukanya, Lauren, Maggie
and Amberly. They were really nice.
Then, a girl with a ponytail and dirty blonde hair burst in,
wet.
“Hi!” called Alice. “You’re Lilah, right?”  ‘Huh?’ I thought.
‘I’m Lila.’
“Yeah.” The girl smiled. Sukanya introduced everybody,
and by Lilah’s facial expression, She was confused.
“Hi..” I mumbled. I'm shy if you don't know me.

“H-hi!” she stammered. I figured we had a lot in common.
An hour later, it had stopped raining. But by dinner, I'd
found a new best camp friend. Right then and there, I
knew that I would have a good time at camp.
