In 1692 in Salem, Massachusetts and in colonial times
when you were in trials with judges it wasn't fare at all
compared to court and trials now. They even accused a
4 year old of being a witch. It was very unfair and counted
on just one persons opinion and vote and that's why
many innocent people died in the Salem Witch Trials.
You will be seeing how unfair it was and how bad of a
time in our history it was.

How it all started

It was a very sad and bad time for Salem in 1692, as you
may know about the Salem Witch Trials. But the 2 girls
who started this and were acting very ill where Abigail
and Betty, they were making noises, screaming, and
hiding under chairs. And people found out and blamed it
on witches and people just blamed it on people who
weren't even witches but still got punished for it. Either
prison for along time or even death. If some witch was
hurting you our possessing you it was called being
bewitched. To stop the sickness some people told them
to make a biscuit and feed it to their dog. They said
every bite it took the witch would feel it and beg for it to
stop and the witch will stop bewitching you.

Finding the witches

The father of the girls demanded them to say the witches
names and apparently it was the same for a lot of other girls
too. Than their fathers went looking for those people all the
girls had named, they named Tituba,Sarah Good, and
Sarah Osborne. Then they went in to questioning to see if
they were suspicious or even find out if they really are
witches they went on to very far areas just to find these
people. To find Tituba Samuel Parris sailed from Barbados to
New England he was a father of one of the ill girls who were
assumed to being bewitched by Tituba.

Questioning
(Tituba)
They founded the people and they questioned one named
Tituba she came in the room so the judges can question her
but all the girls immediately started  squirming and twisting
like they were in pain so people didn't believe she was
innocent. Then later on she confessed she really was a witch
people were in shock that there was an actual witch in the
same room with them. She was a slave from a place called
Barbados in the Caribbean. She said to the judges that the
devil said ¨If you sign my book you'll get a yellow bird, and if
you didn't join him hell keep bugging you.¨ And on the book it
had Sarah Good and Sarah Osborne were in the book too.

(Sarah Good)

Sarah Good was poor person and even dressed in rags she
had no money so she even had to beg people for food. She
had a 4-year-old daughter named Dorcas the reason why she
got accused is because one day she went to Betty's house
and asked for food and Mrs. Parris did but she still felt upset
and was saying something grumpily. And she thought she
was saying a spell or curse and thought she was bewitching
either Abigail or Betty. They were questioning her but they
already thought that she was a witch so it doesn't really
matter. The person writing the questions and answers said
she told lies and acted wickedly but that was only his opinion.

(Sarah Osborne)

Sarah Osborne got married to a man and had 3 children
and was pretty wealthy and she got accused because of very
powerful suggestions from the Putnam family. The reason is
she got accused because she lied about her wealth and
ignored traditions and family alliance. My personal thinking on
that is could it be that the Putnam family didn't like
Sarah Osborne?

The Punishments
The punishments in colonial times and in Salem were very
cruel, like hangings, ducking stool and even having stones on
your ribs and stomach until you rip in half! Yes it was pretty
rough back then and if you ever did get hanged it would
always be in a place called Gallow Hills about 20 people were
executed there. The first person to die in the Salem Witch
Trials was Bridget Bishop in June 10, she got hanged in
Gallow Hills.

This is a picture of Gallow Hills now!

Did you know that Sarah Good's last words to the
judge was “I am no more of a witch then you are a
wizard and if you take my life away god will give
blood to drink. And historians has it that a couple
years after Sarah Good died he died of choking on
his own blood maybe Sarah Good really was a witch?

Conclusion

So as you can see, it really was a bad time in our history a
lot of innocent people died just for might be poor or even rich
you would get killed. It is true that 20 probably more people
died from being accused of being a witch even though they
were not.My opinion is it was very unfair because if one
person even pointed a finger at you and called you a witch
you would probably have your life taken away from you. And
in court with judges it was unfair compared to court with
judges now. So do you it was a bad time in our history?
