Baseball

Introduction

If you like good exercise you should try baseball.
Imagine someone hit the ball to second base. He is
running to 1st, he is close to the base, you catch the
ball and throw it to 1st and the umpire calls the runner
out! Think of the exercise you get from all that moving
around.

Chapter One- Equipment

You need a lot of important equipment for baseball.
You need a glove so you can catch the ball. You could
catch the ball with your bare hands but that would hurt.
A baseball glove is leather and big so you can catch
the ball easily. You also need a ball because it is the
main piece of equipment in baseball. Another piece of
equipment you need is a  bat. The bat is used to hit the
ball. You hit the ball by swinging the bat when the ball
is pitched. The last thing you need are bases. You
need bases because when you hit the ball you need
somewhere to run to. There are 3 bases they are called
1st, 2nd and 3rd. When you run to 3rd the next base
you run to is home plate, when you touch home plate
you score a run, unless you are thrown out!

Chapter 2- Rules

When you have rules it is more fun. One of the rules is
when you bat and you swing three times and you miss
three times in a row you strike out. If your team makes
three outs in the inning the teams switch. Another out
you can make is if you catch a pop-up. A pop-up is
when someone hits the ball in the air. If you catch it the
person that hit the ball is out. You can also get out if
you hit a grounder. A grounder is when you hit the ball
on the ground to a fielder. If you catch the grounder and
you throw it to a baseman before the hitter gets to the
base the hitter is out. You can also get out if you hit a
line-drive. A line-drive is a hit that is hit straight at you.
If you catch it the hitter is out. after the pitcher throws
the ball even if it is not hit.

Sliding is not a rule, this is when you slide on your side
running to the base. You run close to the base and you
get down and slide into the base. Stealing is also not a
rule  but it’s fun! Stealing is when you run to the base

Chapter 3- Positions

First base is the base you run to when you hit the ball.
Imagine you hit the ball it is a base hit, and you stop at
1st! The 1st baseman then tries to catch the ball but
misses. The 1st baseman is supposed to catch the ball
when someone throws it to the base or the ball is hit to
him to make an out.

The second baseman does the same thing as the 1st
baseman but he he has to wait for the runner to get to
second.

The third baseman does the same thing as the 1st and
2nd basemen. The shortstop does not do the same
thing as the 1st 2nd and 3rd basemen. He catches the
ball and throws it to 1st, 2nd or third base get the
runner out.   

Chapter 4- Scoring

Here is how you score. The first way you can score is
when you run all the bases. After a batter hits the ball
you can run to 1st, 2nd or 3rd base. If the runner is on
3rd base  and the ball is hit the runner goes to home
plate and you have scored a run! The most exciting
way to score a run is to hit a home run! When you hit a
home run you get to touch all the bases and slide into
home plate.

Chapter 5- Outs

How to get an out. So the first way is you can catch a
pop-up, line drive or a ground ball. When you catch the
pop-up or line drive the batter is out. If you catch the
grounder you throw the ball to a base or tag the runner
or you can step on the base you are playing.

Conclusion

Now that you have learned the basics of baseball. You
should get into baseball if you don’t have any other
sports to play. This topic is important because you get a
lot of exercise running, fielding and batting in the game

of baseball.
