Introduction

Have you ever wanted to learn about someone who signed the declaration of independence?
Who  thought about other people, and why they should have freedom? Want to learn about a person
who invented the first Fire department, and the city's first hospital? A person that enjoys books so
much that had opened up a lending library? That person is Benjamin Franklin, a true American hero.
The stuff I’m going to be teaching you about is everything you would ever need to know about
Benjamin. He was the First person in New Jersey to sign the Declaration of independence. If that's
not interesting don't worry I have more that will blow your mind, keep on reading and figure out
stuff that will blow your mind! Get your seat belts on we're going back into time. To the time when
Benjamin Franklin was born.

Welcome Home

It all started on January 17, 1706 in Boston Massachusetts. At that time Massachusetts had
belonged to England. After all United states had not existed. Ben Franklin was the 15th child out
of 17. Wow! I can’t believe that, I almost feel bad for the parents, after all they were poor. His
parents were Josiah and Abiah Franklin. His Father Josiah , was a soap and candle maker. That’s
pretty cool, I always wondered how you made soap and candles? It must be pretty cool to have a dad
who does that for a living, don’t you think so?!

Brains of the family
Ben was a very smart and intelligent kid, he learned how to read at a pretty young age he was also
very successful at school. But at age 10 he had to stop school so he can work full time at his father’s
workshop. But after all that can get boring sometimes. I mean he is only a kid after all. Josiah
admired Ben’s hard work. So at age 12, he decided to let Ben work with his older brother James.
James owned a print shop. The only problem was that Ben and James never really had that good
bond most siblings do. Well I mean they never were nice to each other. Though James was not the
best brother he could be to Ben, Ben still learned about publishing news papers. I kind of feel bad for
Ben I mean he does seem really nice and James sounds a little bit snobby. Well me and Ben have
something in common my brother can be a little snobby too!

Run Away

Ben Sadly ran away from home at only age 17. He sailed  from Boston all the way to New York. He had
to sell almost all of his books just so he could have enough money to pay for tickets. In my opinion
that's kind of dumb. He could be buying food and stuff but instead he decided to run away and waste
his money. Well let’s continue the story. He looked around New York for days trying to find a printer
shopthat he could work at, but he had no luck and went to Philadelphia.

Love of his life

Well I mean running away did pay off afterall he met the love of his life, Deborah Read. How
they meet you might ask? At a ball? At a party? Nope. They met on the streets. It all started
with 3 rolls of bread. Ben was starving, after all he did run away from home, and haven't eaten
in ages. So he decided to buy 3 rolls as he was walking in the street one roll was under his left
arm, and the other under is right arm and the other last one was in is his mouth. Ben looked
so funny that Deborah could’t stand to laugh at him. I mean I get why she was laughing but I
never really got the part how Deborah Read turned into Deborah Franklin. They had a
courtship for several years and then married 1730.

Happy Life

They were for sure a happy family! I mean after all they did raise together 3 children; 2 boys
and one girl. His family still didn't stop him from getting to pursue  his dream as a Printer.
And if that is’t good news a few years later Ben and his friend opened up a printing shop.
They were thrilled to be living in Philadelphia. Ben was amazed with writing, he started his
own newspaper called the Pennsylvania Gazette. He was beyond proud with the book he
wrote in 1732.  The book had enough funny stories and very important sayings and quotes.
It was a big hit! The book was called “Poor Richard's Almanac.”

Dreams Do Come True

Ben was in love with Philadelphia. Maybe even more than his wife, I mean after all he did
make the first fire department and the city's very first hospital! I still can't believe back then
they didn't have that stuff now these days everywhere we go we see Hospitals and Fire
Departments. He called the Hospital the Pennsylvania  Hospital. Since Ben loved books
he also wanted to help the pepole in Philadelphia get books, so he opened up a town lending
library. Peoole loved to go there. They joined the library and gave money each year to buy
more fascinating books.
In case you couldn’t tell, Ben loved to invent things. You are not going to believe this when I
tell you, but Ben invented a special stove which was later named after him. The Franklin Stove
it was intended to produce more heat and less smoke.  Still till this day I wonder how he made
a stove back then I mean after all back then they didn't have half of the stuff we have today!
Ben had also created, a metal rod.

Call Away
In 1764, Ben was asked if he could sail to England. Many people and colonist were tired of
England's rule. They believed that “some laws where not fair to others” (Really all of the laws
where not fair.)  Ben tried his hardest to work out the problems and tried to come up with a
solution. Ben sailed back to Philadelphia on May 5, 1775. Many things happened while he was
gone. MANY. For starters his beloved wife Deborah had sadly passed away. And his son had
become governor of New Jersey. It didn't seem as Ben was that shocked to hear his wife had
died I mean back then there were not really any medicine to cure people. But till this day
when a loved one dies everyone is devastated.  Ok back to the story, it was a hard time for
Ben Franklin I mean I would have been balling my eyes out! But something else had
happened thanks to Ben's hard work in England the American Revolutionary war had
begun… AMERICA was at war with ENGLAND. I’m guessing the war is more important
than his wife.

Wisest Of Them All

Ben went to a very important meeting called the second Continental Congress. The
Continental Congress worked beyond hard to write a very important paper. It had explained
why the  American colonies should have the right to be free from England. Ben was one of the
oldest member of the Congress. Everyone payed attention to him. I mean I guess if you are
older then they have more experience than you, so they’re mostly right,  I would listen to him.
Ben’s ideas became a big part of the paper It was called…The Declaration of Independence!
In 1781, the war was finally over, America was FREE! Thank goodness if we were not free
then who knows what the world today would be like.
After the war was over, Ben still had one more job to finish. In 1781, he attended another
important  meeting and it was called the Constitutional Convention. I wonder how they came
up with all of these names?  There he officially signed the Constitution of the United States!
Wow! That’s pretty interesting.

Goodbye

Ben had also written a saying that goes like this Poor Richard’s Almanac: “The noblest
question in the worlds is, What good may I do in it?”
After he wrote that Ben sadly died. Right before his death, sally his granddaughter said to
Ben, “ You will have many more years ahead of yourself.”
“ I hope not.” Ben had Answered. I wonder why he said why not? I mean I sure would love to live a
couple more years to be with my children and grandchildren it would mean the world to me, but
maybe Ben thought he had done his job in life and had accepted he had, had a good life!

Conclusion

If you couldn't tell Benjamin Franklin was more the just a American hero. He was a Father,
inventor, a Husband, a grandfather.  And much more. He put his life before many others
and wanted everything and everyone to become equal with each other. Benjamin will for
sure always be apart of everyone. Without his hard work and dedication who knows what
the world would be like today.
As a scientist, Ben was a major figure in the American Enlightenment and the history of
physics for his discoveries and thoughts regarding electricity.  His inventions were mind
blowing, like the lightning rod, the Franklin stove, glasses just to name a few. He might
have had a rough life as a child not being treated right with his brother having to drop out
of school at a early age but he sure did grow up as an intelligent Hero. Ben Franklin is a person
we should all remember!
