One Green Apple,
a Story of Being Different
In life everyone is different from each other. When you’re
friends with someone who is different, it’s a good thing. If one
person is from a different country, then they can teach the
other friend their traditions. In the book, One Green Apple,
we learn that it doesn’t matter if you’re different, being you
matters. In the book Farah came from a different country,
in the new country things are different, and even though she
was different she still made friends.

One reason I know Farah is different is because she came from
a different country. Since Farah came from a different country
she has a unique name. Farah’s name is “Farah,” and one of her
classmate’s names is Anna. Anna is a more common name. Another
example of how Farah is different is at Farah’s home country
they dressed differently than the country she moves to. At the
field trip Farah realizes she is the only one wearing a dupatta.
In the text it says, “I’m different too, in other ways. My
jeans and T- shirt are like theirs, but my dupatta covers my
head and my shoulders”. Another piece of evidence that Farah
is different is when Farah’s classmates are speaking Farah can't
speak to them or understand them. Those are my examples of
how I know Farah is different.

My next reason I know Farah is different is, things are different
for her than her old country. My first example is, in Farah’s
country boys and girls didn’t sit next to each other. On the hay
wagon Farah thought it was weird that boys and girls were sitting
next to each other. Another example that things were different
for her was, in Farah’s country they didn’t teach her English.
In the new country they teach her English. My third example
that things are different to Farah is back in Farah’s country they
had difficulties. I know that because in the text the father said,
¨Our home country and our new country have had difficulties¨.
Those are my three examples why things are different for Farah

My third reason that Farah was different is even though Farah is
different, she still made friends. One example that Farah is
different is when she was on the hay wagon Farah makes friends
with a girl named Anna. I know that because in the text it said,
ԬThe girl who sits next to me smiles and points to herself. She
says, ¨Anna.”’ After Anna says her name Farah smiled, said her
name back and looked very happy. My next piece of evidence that
Farah still made friends is when they were making apple cider in
the beginning Farah was standing to the side. Then, her classmates
make room for her. My last example is on the ride back the boy
sitting next to Farah belches also known as a burp. Farah starts
cracking up and was very happy at that moment. Those were my
three examples of why even though Farah is different she can
still make friends.

It is clear that even though Farah is different, it doesn’t matter.
Being you matters. In the book Farah is different from everybody.
She has a dupatta, and can’t speak English. Even though she is
different, at the end she made friends. All of these reasons show
how Farah made friends. If there is someone new in your class and
they are different, you don’t need to avoid them. You could become
friends.
