Ding, the waffle maker went off. The smell of fresh waffles and syrup filled the
air- the waffles  were ready. “Yum,¨ said Jane.The Klands where sitting at the
table on a Sunday morning eating waffles. The waffles smelled delicious but
Dawn was not hungry. She felt sick to her stomach.¨If we get a snake what
will it eat?”said Dawn.

¨Mice,¨ said Peter in a mouth full of strawberries.

¨M-m-m mice?¨said Dawn in a shaky vocie.It was true. Dawn Kland was afraid
of mice.

¨There are some good expos soon,¨ said Dad.That relieved Dawn.The thought
of taking care of a snake warmed her heart. She ate her serving of waffles in
peace.

“Mama if we get a snake what will we name it?”  said Jane.

“I  don't know,”said mom. Marlin, the family dog, started to lick Dawn’s feet.
She wasn't paying attention to him.She wasn't paying attention to her family.
She was paying attention to the memories she hoped to make with her pet
snake.

“There is a good expo in September”said mom.

“Any time earlier?” asked Peter in a whiny voice.

“Well...there is one today...,” said Mom.

“LET'S GO!!!” said the family.                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                           

Dawn itched her legging.The family was finished with church and on there way
to the expo.”Daddy do you got to go?” said Jane.

“Yes peaches,” said Dad. “Peaches” was Dad's nickname for Jane. The Klands
went their separate ways. Mom, Peter,Dawn and Jane went in the car. The
seats were blue and had crumbs all over them.  “My friend Gabby has a snake
and bla bla bla…”Dawn was not paying attention to her sister she was paying
attention to if she didn't get a snake today she wouldn't get one until
September. Dawn’s feet were tapping nervously on the ground.”and Gabby says
if you if you get bit you will …”

Oh, thought Dawn,Jane was still talking.They stopped at the house and
changed out of church clothes.They started to drive. The car shock and  rattled.
The exit sign read “WELCOME TO KENELED!”The car began to turn of the
exit. Dawn was shaking nervously. Am I going to get a pet, thought Dawn.
Maybe not, she thought in terror!                                  

The Cool air conditioner blew in Dawn's face.She heard hissing, and she saw
tanks and pets. Loud noise filled Dawn’s ears, so loud it almost broke her
eardrums. Stands covered in cages were lined up like Ms Smith's room, her 3rd
grade teacher. While Dawn was happy to be in a room full of reptiles,she was
also nervous she wouldn’t get the perfect snake. Her eyes darted around the
gymnasium. She didn’t know where to look! Turtles, lizards, and spiders filled
the cages, but she was looking for a snake, the pet she hoped to take home
that day. In her head she saw a green,thick,long snake with yellow eyes,
wrapping itself around a stick.

Dawn keeped on looking for the perfect snake.As she looked around more and more Jane spotted a stand “Mommy,what does ...cots piton mean?”said Jane. “It actually  says Kate’s python,” said Dawn rolling her eyes.The family walked over to the stand.Kate showed them  a perfect snake. “Can we buy her mom, pleeeeease mom?”whined Dawn.

“I don’t know love bug,” said mom. “How much is she?” “$259,plus tax,”said Kate “Sweaty,she is too expensive,”said mom. Dawn was  very disappointed.There was her perfect snake. Dawn was still disappointed that the snake was too much. She say a stand, it said Charlotte's yellow belly ball pythons. ¨can we go there mum?¨”said Dawn. ¨SURE THING SWEETY!¨said mom happy that Dawn wants to do something. A tall,fat lady wearing a green sundress(even tho it was 44 degrees out) was at a stand with about seven snake cages on her table. “Excuse me miss but do you know who runs this place?”said mom. “ME,”said the lady. She had a deep voice. “Do you want a snake?” said the lady. Sweetly mom said “Mind if we hold one?” the next thing the Dawn knew she was holding a snake. “I wove her!”said Jane. “It's a he  actually!” said Charlotte. “It Is??!!”said Dawn, Jane and Peter. I really love him,” said Dawn. “Can we get him  please?” said the kids. “ Um,I don’t know...how much is she I mean he…,”said mom. forty bucks he’s yours.’’said Charlotte “Well let me call my husband,” said mom “ DADDY DAD!!!”screamed Jane. Mom got on the phone with Mr. Kland. Finally mom started to talk. “ We will take him !” said mom “YAYYYYYYYY!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!”  shouted all the kids.

The car ride home was very quiet.Dawn was holding the snake.His name was Murray.Dawn learned something from that day,sometime the best things aren't planned. That was how Murray came to the family.
