The Other Side Essay
Book By: Jacqueline Woodson
In the book, The Other Side, my thesis is, it doesn’t
matter the color of your skin, you can still make friends.
In this essay you will learn why this is my thesis, here are
my three reasons to support my thesis.

In this essay you will learn why this is my thesis, here are
my three reasons to support my thesis.
One reason I think that it doesn't matter the color of
your skin, you can still make friends is, don’t let anything
get in the way of making friends. For example, Clover and
Annie still become best friends, even though the color of
their skin is different. Another example is, when Annie
asks to play with Clover and her friends, one of her
friends, Sandra, says no, without asking Clover or anyone
else. In the text it says, “ Once, when we were jumping
rope, Annie asked to play. My friend Sandra said no,
without asking the rest of us.” That is why you should let
nothing get in your way of making friends.

Another reason I think that it doesn't matter the color
of your skin, you can still make friends is, listen to your
heart, even if it means breaking the rules. For example,
Clover and Annie listen to their hearts, and make friends
with each other, when their moms told them not to go
near each other. Do what you want to do. Don’t let
segregation stop you from making friends. In the text it
says,” I got close to the fence and the girl asked me my
name, “ Clover,” I said. “ My name’s Annie,” she said.”
Clover went near the fence, to make friends with Annie.

My final reason I think that it doesn't matter the color
of your skin, you can still make friends is, despite the
rules, they fought for each other. For example, even
though they weren't supposed to be friends, they still
became friends. Annie isn't supposed to go to the other
side of the fence, to were Clover lives, but she did anyway.
Cloverś mom said not to go anywhere near the fence,
but Clover still went near the fence.

reasons were… (1 don’t let anything get in the why of
making friends. (2 listen to your heart, even if it means
breaking the rules. (3 despite the rules, they fought for
