Introduction:
What was the Boston Massacre
Imagine angry Colonists screaming in the city of Boston as more and more British troops arrive.
Several colonists continue to ignore the soldiers and eventually a fight begins. This major event is
known as The Boston Massacre. There was plenty of tension during the Boston Massacre, and much
sadness as Crispus Attucks died, and very solemn days after. This is the Boston Massacre.

What Happened During The Boston
Massacre?
Massacre?
“No taxation without representation!” Screamed the Colonist during the Boston Massacre.
The Boston Massacre happened on Monday, March 5, 1770 on King Street, in Boston.
The Massachusetts Bay is very close to Boston. Salem is a very close city to Boston, and
Plymouth, the Pilgrims settlement, is also very close. It was a freezing and frigid day.
The cause of the massacre was because Colonist taunted British soldiers who were walking
in the street. Colonist also threw snow, ice, and rocks at British soldiers. They were also
calling them names like lobsterbacks. Suddenly, a vocal fight broke out between a young
Colonist and a soldier. Then a big crowd appeared in the middle of King street.
Colonists fought with the British, and the British fought with Colonists. Then the fighting went
too far.

crew, “Don’t fire,” but there was a misunderstanding; one of
the soldiers thought he said FIRE! So, he shot his gun.
Suddenly bells started ringing in the city to signal that there
was trouble. More and more colonists showed up to the scene.
Then the noise gun fire of the panicking soldiers filled the street.
In the end, 5 Colonists died, and 6 were wounded. People who
were wounded were carried to the hospital immediately. People
who didn’t even know the people who were wounded carried
them to the hospital. Two days later one of the wounded died.
A famous man named Paul Revere, who is very well known for his midnight ride, made an
engraving of the Boston Massacre. Paul’s engraving was not completely accurate however.
Paul purposely made it look as if the Boston Massacre was when British soldiers shot at
an innocent crowd of Colonists. Historians say that most of the engravings of
the Boston Massacre are not accurate. Perhaps this is because this event happened so long
ago in history no one really remembers what happened. However, some historians can make
some logical inferences about what happened during the bloody Massacre.

Who Was Crispus Attucks?
Crispus Attucks was born in 1723. He was the first man to die during the Boston Massacre, and he was
a very famous man. Crispus Attucks’ father, Prince Younger, was a slave. He worked very hard in the
fields and in the plantations all day. Later on, Crispus Attucks became a slave. He had the same work
ethic as his father. Crispus Attucks was owned by a man named William Brown. When people tried to
buy Crispus Attucks, William Brown said, “He is too valuable.” So William Brown would never give up
Crispus Attucks. When he was 27 years old, Crispus Attucks ran away from William Brown. Crispus
Attucks escaped mainly by sailing on ships. William Brown was very sad, but on the other hand
Crispus Attucks was very happy. In the cities there were signs that read - “Wanted, Crispus Attucks!”
In 1769 Crispus Attucks stopped sailing to live in Boston. Crispus Attucks went on to do business
with white men. He made a decent amount of money from that job. Crispus had other jobs in
Boston as well, including a seaman and a rope maker.

On March 5, 1770 on King street in Boston bells were ringing all over the city. Loud bells in
Boston means that there is trouble in the city. Crispus ran to where the noise was coming from.
There was a big mob of Rebels harassing lobsterbacks. There were fights all over King street.
Then suddenly...BAM! Gun fire shot! Crispus Attucks lay dead as the first out of five who died
in the Boston Massacre. Crispus was rushed to the hospital but it was too late. The doctors could
not do anything. He would not make it out alive. Crispus Attucks died at 47 years old. Patriots,
Rebels, Neutralists, Tories, and Loyalists will always remember, Crispus Attucks.

What Happened After the Boston
Massacre?
Massacre?
At the end of the Boston Massacre when all the gunshots stopped firing, the wounded and dying
were rushed to the hospital for help. Some people screamed and ran for their lives. British
soldiers cleared all the Colonists out of the streets. In the end, British soldier Thomas Preston
was arrested, as well as many other British troops. The next three days in Boston were really
solemn days. There were funerals for the five men that died. People who did not even know
these men went. A memorial was built of the tragic Boston Massacre.

There were six people wounded from the Boston Massacre and two days after, one of the
wounded died. Back then doctors used to bleed you to make you feel better, and if it did not
work they would blame witches for it. Medicine was not very advanced in the 1700’s so alot of
people would die if they were sick.

colonial times. The Boston Massacre was intense, a famous person died, and there was sadness
all over the city. It helped pave the way to the start of the Revolutionary War between 1775 and 1783.
